New Learning Champions are a success!
After our last article, (see below) the Oasis centre are proud to have the following success story about our local vistors.

Learning Champions at the Oasis!Pictured from left to right our new learning Champions Katy, Paula and Penny. They all use the Oasis Centre on a regular basis and have recently volunteered to become Learning Champions.
Nik Mason our Marketing Manager sat down with them and asked a few questions about what they think about the Centre and the Learning Champion scheme.
Why did you become Learning Champions?
Penny replied “I wanted to find information about different courses and be informed enough to tell others about the many opportunities available to them.”
Where did you find out about becoming a Learning Champion?
Katy said, “It was Chris Stevens at the Oasis Centre who gave me leaflets with the information about volunteering and also Wendy Stevenson who gave me informed advice on what would be expected of me.”
How has it benefited you?
Katy said, “After attending a few courses at the Oasis centre it has changed my outlook. This may sound a little dramatic but it has changed my life, I feel so much more confident and able to tackle anything.”
Paula also said, “I’m the same, I’ve really come out of my shell since being at the Oasis Centre and it doesn’t matter how old or young you are or what you look like. People at the Oasis do not judge you they talk to you as an equal; I feel so comfortable to be myself.”
Where do you want to go from here?
Penny and Katy said, “We both would like to gain more qualifications through courses that are available at the Centre and to help others to realise their potential in the same way we have. Also we enjoy coming to the centre as we can get out of the house and socialise. The staff are all friendly and we don’t feel talked down to.”
Paula also said, “I’m not looking for a job at the moment as I have young children but I like to come down to meet people, which is why I have set up the Oasis coffee mornings.”
The next coffee morning is on the 4th of August. Everyone at the Oasis would like to thank the girls for their help and thanks them for the excellent job they are doing helping the Oasis Community Centre.Learning Champions
Are you interested in becoming a Learning Champion within your community?
What sort of person can become a Learning Champion, I here you ask?
Well anyone who is active in their local community or groups. If you enjoy learning in all its forms and understand the benefits of learning, which you are willing to pass onto other, then you are the ideal person to become a Learning Champion.
A Learning Champion encourages people to take part in learning by sign posting them to learning opportunities within their community.
We are offering a free Learning Champion training course which lasts about 6 hours and this will not only develop your understanding of the role but also teach you useful skills and the knowledge for sign posting people to learning opportunities. This course involves lots of practical sessions.
You need no previous knowledge or experience, just enthusiasm for learning and being part of your local community.
We are able to run this course through some funding we have received from Cambridgeshire County Council as part of the Neighbourhood Learning for Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund and also our partnership working with C&P learning Trust.
If you require any further information, please contact Chris on 01945 428661 and we will be running the course on Tuesday 17th June 2008.
Confidence Course.

Four candidates have recently completed their courses at the Oasis Centre. The organisation, Breaking through the Barriers has helped individuals to realise their potential and allow their inner potential a chance to shine. The course has taken five weeks to complete and ended with each candidate doing a short presentation in front of fellow students and teachers. Charlotte Norris said "I have really enjoyed my time in the class and now want to go on and teach others how to develop their confidence".
If you feel you could benefit from more confidence contact 01223 744778 for a initial conversation.

Nutrat Raises Money for the Stroke association.
Nut Rat the furry fella who lives in our Walnut tree went all the way to Peterborough on the 29th of last month to help raise money for the Stroke Association. He bravely stepped out onto the ledge at the top of the Woolworth's building over looking the city centre and began the 120ft descent. He manage to raise £150 for the Charity. When asked if he enjoyed himself he said, “It was great fun, however the harness was a little tight round my tail!” Pictured below is Nutrat as he comes down the building fluffy tail first.
